Phil and Brenda Wiebe operate Badger Blender Decorative Finishes, providing a complete range of painting and decorating solutions.
Phil has 30+ years of experience in the painting industry; working first in his father’s painting business and later on his own. While the basis of the business is painting walls and ceilings and finishing woodwork, they now offer a wide variety of decorative ideas for new projects, or options to help restore and preserve the old.
The faux finishing line has long been of keen interest to Phil, starting years ago with a small desk which his grandfather, a painter in his day, refinished with imitation wood grain. A boy’s fancy was caught, his imagination sparked by his grandpa’s project, and interest has since been developed into full-fledged talent.
Initially, armed with his grandfather’s Painting and Decorating Handbook, Phil began to experiment with faux finishing. In the last 22 years he has pursued the craft more aggressively by taking training in decorative finishes. He studied marble and woodgraining in studio training in Florida, and in classes led by Mike McNiel. Countless hours of practice have only refined the quality of the striking faux finishes Phil creates.
Marble, faux bois/woodgraining, vintage wood finishes, decorative plasters, distressed paint finishes, weathered paint effects, patinas, are all brought to life.
Traditional or contemporary... they are beautiful, realistic, and truly amazing.
Kitchen cabinets, interior or exterior doors, ceilings, columns, accent walls can all be treated to create unique accents.
Samples of his craftmanship are remarkable, and the variety of potential uses broad, both on the residential or commercial scene.
Restoring the library in a more than one hundred year old house in Halifax, NS was one of the examples of the potential of decorative painting. Another project took them to the island of Maui, Hawaii to replicate local wood finishes in a resort where the owner is focused on keeping the traditional island feel. Phil has also restored the wood grain on a 1960’s Rolls Royce.
They look forward to the challenge and pleasure of producing creative, high quality decorative finishes for you!
